Spoiler: To delete or not to delete, that is the question

wldchic. You should have had them fill that 3rd brake light while they were working on your trunk.

I agree it would look better without it.........but then what would I do......get one of the long light bars that flash all colors........???.........The stock light is about the smallest one that I have seen.

Is it a law that you have to have them? Or do you want it for safety reasons? I personally don't like the look of the 3rd light (on any car). I think I saw a 3rd light relocating kit somewhere, but I can't remember who made it. It basically when in the back window at the top.

In California you have to have them.........I can only get away with so much.........no front plates, tinted windows, exhaust.............

Without a third brake light I would get pulled over by a BIG WOMAN THAT LOOKS LIKE A MAN.........and then I'm screwed!

I am in california, and I never heard of that. Not saying you are wrong. Just never heard of it. What about all the old cars that don't have them? I tried surfing the chp site. no info. You happen to have a link to the law? I am sick of all these california laws.

It is a federal law...........Everyone thinks California is so great.......it does have great weather, but basically, we are just living in a suburb of Mexico............with the bonus of the stupid laws.

A "suburb of Mexico"? :nonono: I've traveled various parts of Mexico muchas veces and SoCal is a much better place for el gringo tiene gusto de mí. If I were an average Mexican living in average living conditions I'd be trying to get here too! As far as "stupid laws" are concerned, many of those same laws have made this state a healthier place to live. Our air quality is better now and the rest of the country adopted our emission standards. I enjoy being in a restaurant without someone buring through a pack of Kools while I'm trying to eat my dinner. California...it's not just a state...it's a country! :D

Remember, if you don't like SoCal there's always Phoenix or Vegas. I'm sure they'd be happy to have you. Everybody loves Californians who relocate!

And you wonder why the rest of the country thinks california is full of fruits and nuts.

The rest of the country is bitter. :stick: Over 35 million people...the most populous state in the union...gives us 53 representatives in the House. That means that OUR opinion matters more than someone from Ohio or Kansas. You might not like it but it's reality...deal with it. People flock here for a reason. You don't see people packing their bags, jumping up and down with excitement as they anticipate their move to Cleveland, Pittsburgh or Philadelphia! :rlaugh:

The 2005 Mustang convertible is made for sunny California. We can enjoy it year round. Pony owners in snowbound states are lucky to get 6 months of use out of their ride.

Dude... I'm going to hate myself for this but the Peoples Republic of Kalifornica isn't what it used to be. I was born and raised in California. I spent most of my teenage years hanging out on the beach in Malibu. I bailed out of So Cal back in 1978 when the mad rush of people wanting a piece of that California dream was at its peak. My parents bought a house in the San Fernando valley in 1973 for $30,000. They sold it in 1979 for $100,000. Today the house is selling for over $500,000. And its the same old house that I lived in. Housing prices have become so bad I know people who work near LAX and live in Canyon Country just so they can afford a place to live.

When I was a kid, California was the greatest place in the world to be from. It was an is home to immortals of music like Jan and Dean, the Eagles, the Beach Boys, and the Momma's and the Papa's (yes I AM showing my age!!). Sadly its now only a shadow of what it once was. Maybe I'm just getting old but while "California Dreaming" once mean't driving with the top down and walking on the beach, now its what people do when they're parked on the Ventura freeway at rush hour.

Oh and Convertibles were made for living in Arizona. There's nothing like the feeling of driving with the top down, the A/C cranked, and the outside temp well over 100!!! :rlaugh:

Good point, but what IS what it used to be? Everything changes, even in Arizona. You just have to take the good with the bad. What has happened to the cost of living out there in AZ? I will venture to guess that populations are rising too... which will mean more changes. Some for the better, some not. I’ll bet the air quality out here in California is better now than it was in 1978. Property is worth 5-fold what it was in 1978... I am only a transplant here (since 1995) but I know that I hated midwest weather, lack of culture (and cultural sensitivity) and lack of opportunity. I moved here because it had the most potential and it did not take long for me to love it. I have my own successful business, my house appreciated 40% this last year alone. Besides, where else could The Terminator be governor? :flag: Anyone who wonders “why California” should rent a convertible, drop the top, and take a cruise down (or up, for that matter) the coast on Hwy 1. Only then will you begin to understand.

Fruit or nut? I am neither, but I live in California.

Cool everyone hates California. Stop moving here then, we'd love it. It's crowded enough.

Yeah my parents bought their house in the San Fernando Valley for $44,000 in 1969. They still live in it, and it was recently appraised at $1.2 million. Quite a return on an investment. :) The price of housing is out of control here that is for sure. Wouldn't trade So Cal weather for anything however, and wouldn't live anywhere else. So to each his own.
Any car built before 1985 1/2 does not have to have a third brake light. And no you don't have to add it if you have a car older than that. That's just not true at all.
But is it illegal to remove it on a 85 1/2 + car?

Also wldchic, CDC has a cool looking light bar that mounts on top of the back window. I would link it, but their website is going berserk.

Lived there only since 1995... you're still just a CA n00b!!! :D

Don't get me wrong there's still a lot of good to that place but for many of us native Californian's that California dream started looking more and more like a nightmare. Now whats really intriguing is the attitudes that permeate through different parts of the state. You folks up in the bay area have the highest cost of living in the nation but mostly seem to deal with it without a lot of complaining. Down in San Diego county, however, residents seem to mostly disassociate themselves with their neighbors just to the north. In their minds Los Angeles isn't another county... it's another planet!!

Oh and by the way, native Southern Californians don't refer to it as Highway 1. To us its PCH baby!!!
