Is it too much of a pain to be worth it to run a spool on the street? I was plannin on switchin to 31 splines when I go to 5 lug, and then that means I gotta change my diff, but lockers are like 500$

spool is only like 130 for a mini spool but my friend said they're a hassle for a DD.

Any suggestions?

8.8" I presume.
Well, turns would be a beeotch, and if you got squirrely in the rain you probably wouldn't be able to recover. At least a locker would unlock.

I've got an inexpensive suggestion though, what about a Trac Loc unit from an Explorer 8.8, since they came with 3.73 or 4.10 gears and 31 spline axles.

You can re-stack the factory stacking order to the better stacking order for more bite. Instead of F-SS-F-SS-F, stack them F-S-F-S-F-S-F, using 2 good used clutches that you pull out(one for each side). I did this to our Crown Vic, and it bites pretty hard. If you go this route, use 2 bottles of friction modifier from Ford. Soak the clutches for at least 30 minutes, and go for it.

would those units fett posted work with all my stock stuff? Well I mean my 3.73s? If I can put those right in, maybe just change that stacking order you were talking about, and then get some 31 splines then I think that would be the way to go.
