Hey guys - haven't been around here much. After the HG went on the 5.0, I've been a bit depressed about the mustang. She's sitting in storage now, so I haven't been thinking too much about her.

With the new year coming, I'm going to have to get my butt in gear and get her running.

Here's what I know:

1. I have significant blow-by (enough to push the dipstick out + blue smoke on hard acceleration)

2. I more than likely have a blown HG (car is running very rough since overheating initially, condensation/water dripping out tailpipe, coolant leaking from valvecovers)

3. Engine has 230k kms on it and could use a refresh aside from problems #1 and #2

So a tear down is in order. I must decide if I want to R&R the old block, or if I want to drop in a new block. Either way, it won't be performance oriented. If it is necessary to bore the old block to 306, that's fine. I haven't decided if I'm going to sell the car or not, so I don't want to drop big $$$ on a DSS or similar block.

What would you do in my situation?

Duncan, how about you grab up a low mile Exploranier 5.0 (if they have them up north) from the J/Y for cheap.

Good to see you back in here mang. :nice:

Hey JT - nice to be back :)

The explorer route was always an option. I'll have to call around to see if there's any in the province. Maybe try to get my name on a waiting list. Having GT40 heads would be nice :nice:
