today i washed the engine like i have countless times before and now the car is sputtering and driving like crap. i covered the coils, air filter and alterantor as usual. when i got home i found the car wouldnt turn back on. i found the the spark plugs were soaked in water all the way to the tips. i got all that water out and the car turns on again but it sputters, takes forever to accelerate and even sounds like its backfiring. nothing seems to be disconnected either. is there anything else i might have gotten wet that i wasnt supposed to or do i just need to wait for it to dry?

well you did get water in the spark plugs you might have fryed a wire too. alot of things result in your car Miss Firing. check all your plugs wires also your coil packs and fuel injectors make sure they are not wet or unpluged. also check your firing order

Check the IAC and give it a couple of whacks...usually works until you clean it.

yea it turns out i had flooded the spark plugs all to hell. they were completely submerged in water. im not sure how it happened since that was the first time that it had. anyway i had to disconnect all the plug wires and soak up all the water with paper towels. it was a little tedious but it got the job done. started fine afterward but it still stalled and sputtered alot in drive so i just left it running in park in the driveway for about 20 min to get whatever remaining water to evaporate. i did this about 3 times and by the next morning it ran fine. good luck. hopefully you did the same thing my dumba** did and not more damage.

Has anyone been able to single out the cause (not including spark plugs) for a sputtering condition after getting the 4.6 engine wet ? I've been having a problem with mine & it is not due to water in the spark plugs holes. In fact, I just replaced the plugs after carefully blowing out the holes with air. A coil pack is an easy assumption but is there an easy way to test them ? Aside from a coil pack, what are some other possibilities ?
