Squeak after let off brakes + Conv ?

I get a slight high pitched type of squeak noise after letting go of a fully pressed down brake, is this just brake pads or something else?

Also is it safe to use WD40 on the convertible hinges and parts to get it ready for spring/summer?

For hinges etc, do not use WD40, this will make the problem worse. Use white lithium grease to lubricate hinges, hitches, etc. It is available at any auto parts store.

Hmm, I have used WD on the vert hinges before - never did anything bad. i have also used white lithium, but it is ugly.

on the brakes, on some cars (i cant remember is stangs are one), there are low-wear springs/indicators that are on the pads - they will rub the rotor and make noise when the pads need renewing.

if we dont have those, i would check rotor run out - sounds like one is lightly warped.

I have the same squeek. Whenever I am stopped and let off the brake I get a high pitched squeek that sounds like it is coming from the back. I wish I knew what it was.

wd40 is not an acutal "lubricant" yes it has those properties...but it evaporates you need more of a permenant lubircant like grease..

If it is comming from the rear, the brake shoes may need some grease on the lil pads they slide on.

White lithium grease is ugly as it is not transparent, it is white. It leaves a residue that looks sloppy/messy... ugly. As Ordie said, you need a grease as apposed to WD40. White lithium grease is the stuff you want.

yeah, Mav said it just as well as i would have about 'ugly'. LOL. i think the best thing for vert hinges is something from an oil bottle (not unlike thin motor oil, which may be what is called for anyhow). the hinges should not get too dirty with the top up (duh) and if one uses the boot, it keeps it somewhat clean with the top down.

I am lazy and use white lithium, but it really looks like poop. i waited for the top to be up and cleaned the external area off (white residue).

oh yeah, lubricant is all relative (im not at all disagreeing with anything on this post - just posting useless info) .

many things are a lubricant to something. water is natures most plentiful lubricant and solvent. fuel lubricates the fuel pump diaphram, but would not do so hot in other applications. the list goes on and on.
