Squeaking Before Dying?

The car is running great (for once). Yesterday, I noticed a bit of an intermittent squeak from the from of my engine, possibly from the alternator or one of the pulleys. Could this be indicative of a potential failure? I know this sounds like a very general question, I'm just trying to determine my next course of action.

Get an automotive stethascope from your favorit autoparts store and see if you can pinpoint the squeeking component. Could be pulley or A/C compressor bearings or anything else that's rotating under there.

put the rear wheels up on jack stands and run the car in first w/ the help of a friend. DONT FORGET TO CHOCK THE FRONT WHEELS FOR THIS WILL RESULT IN PAIN AND SUFFERING.

mine squeeked a little till I put wd40 on the little self adjuster for the belts - right on the bearing area - shut it right up.
