It's your Throw out bearing. It's located between your transmission and clutch. You need no second opinion.

Ummmm, I thought TOB was only evident when the drivetrain was active, such as neutral with clutch out? Clutch in and squeak is not the TOB.

Not entirely true.

Tht throw out bearing is used to push the fingers of the clutch pressure plate and release the disk from the flywheel and pressure plate.

It is under the most load when the clutch is in.

Most stangs seem to have a squeak that happens at idle, in neutral with the clutch out, this is usually caused by the TOB rattling in the clutch fork from improper installation or the fingers that hold the TOB to the fork are wore. the fork ball pivot can also be dry and cause the neutral rattle/squeak.

So, to answer the original question, yes, it could be the TOB. It could also be a Pilot bearing, as the pilot is used when the clutch is in (depressed).

My post was directed at it being the Pilot. Just couldn't think of it, as I've had 2 many Miller's tonight.

Take it in, but be careful of what mods they are sensitive to. Some dealers won't touch it if there are mods.

I hear ya on the Beer

I would say yes, take it to Ford, if it's under warranty why pay to get it done when you can pay your deductable and get it done for you? In addition, people that do that sort of work day in and out will be doing the job, on top of providing warranty on the work?

If it's under warranty, take it in, after all, what's the warranty for??

Also, be careful on the mods. Most of the time dealers won't mind on small stuff, like exhaust (cat-back only) shifter, ect.

Anything major, clutch flywheel, ect. you're out of luck.

bearing

my 98 gt did the same. it was the throw out bearing. if you let ford do it, i hope
you don't have longtube headers.they will kill you with labor charges if you have longtubes.
they pull the motor cause the tranny wont go thru the headers.

Why not just remove the long tubes, then the tranny? (instead of pulling the motor)

no way to get the headers out without pulling the motor, especially the longtubes. It's almost as impossible with shorites, the 4.6 is just such a wide motor, there is no clearance between the headers and the body.
