hello,

When I push the clutch pedal in on my 94gt 80,000miles , it makes this bad squealing noise. the sound goes away alittle bit as car is driven awhile, but it seems to be getting worse and worse as time goes on. My clutch isn't slipping or anything and seems to be solid. What is this? And should I be worried (Am i doing any damage by driving it?)

thanks in advance..

Sounds like your throwout bearing is going south. And yes, you should be worried about this. If the TOB goes, you lose your clutch. If you are thinking of getting a aftermarket clutch kit (pressure plate, clutch disc, TOB), order it now. If you want a stock replacement (i.e. autozone/ford/etc), pick it up asap.

Gonna swap it yourself?

In the mean time, if you have to drive the car, don't use the clutch unless you have to. Leave the trans in neutral at stoplights, slow down way before a red light so hopefully you won't have to take it out of gear.

Hogwash....

My TOB has sounded horrible since I bought the car... That was 19k miles ago. Now the guy said that he replaced the clutch jsut before i bought it but it doesn't grab ofr anyhting so if he did something ain't right...

What I did for peace of mind is work on shifting without the clutch so that should I have to I can get it home after hours (ya know when you don't actually stop at stop lights)...
