I just purchased a white 2006 GT, and am going to go pick it up this weekend. Only problem is that the UDP,s (Roush) squeal on start up. Have any of you experienced this and is there a common root of the problem?

Thanks in advance for any help, and I am excited about joining the S-197 community!

It could be as simple as a new belt is needed. Check the belt for cracks, if there are, swap it out.

Sounds like a belt to me, the pullies won't squeal themselves. How many miles on that car? The belts should be good fora while.

There are a number of things that could cause belts to die early. Like was said, change the belt and if it still squeals then look to the idler pulleys (I have had those squeal as they die).

Squealing UDP's

The belt may have 25,000 miles on it so that may be the problem. I will check it. The prior owner sprayed something on the pulleys to eliminate the noise. I'll check the idler pulleys also.

Thanks, I'll let you know!

If the previous owner sprayed "Belt Dressing" on it to quiet it down, the belt is probably bad. But it could be a idler (Bearing) that is going bad, however I would think a bad idler would squeal all of the time.

I hope you get it fixed, those squeals are a pain in the butt!

It could also be a pulley alignment issue. That can def. cause a belt to squeek.A cracked belt won't cause a squeek, either. Usually a squeel is from the pulleys or not enough tension on the belt.

Pulley seems to be failing...

I got the 2006 home and I noticed a slight metallic clicking and clattering coming from under the hood. After popping the hood the noise seemed much louder and sounded like the ball bearings were coming loose in one of the pulleys and clattering around. I think the tensioner pulley, or another pulley, is failing.

Could the underdrive pulleys have caused this? Also, the belt definitely squeals on start up and then fades away. I think this is all related. Any thoughts or experiences with this? I bet the dealer won't honor the warranty on this.
