My chip is coming today. I've got the pcm out and hanging. I need to clean the contacts. Has some heavy grease on them. The directions say to use a craft knife to scrape it off, then use emery cloth to get it down to the copper, then rubbing alcohol to finish cleaning. Do I really need to scrape it off w/ a knife (it looks/feels like it will wipe right off)? Any pointers?

Who told you to clean the contacts? That grease is on there fo a reason. I wouldn't clean it off. Just put the chip in and see if it works. If you have problems with it, then I would clean them up. Though, I would still leave some of the grease on there. Mine has the same grease that your talking about. I just left it on there and put the chip on. No problems as of yet.

And I quote

It is IMPERATIVE that all the contacts are cleaned perfectly, BOTH top and bottom. Use a craft knife, paper clip, or awl to clean these contacts. After you have scraped way most of the coating, you can use a piece of emery cloth, or scotch pad even more, clean until you see COPPER and do not go any further or PCM damage will occur. Clean one contact at a time and do not go across the contacts. Once you get down to the copper, clean the contacts with a clean, lint free cloth soaked in rubbing alcohol.

EDIT how can I tell that it works? I'm pretty sure Pete's getting his directions from Jerry from SCT tuning.

Sounds a little sketchy to me.. :rolleyes: Scrap until you see copper!! :eek:
I hope you don't get any moisture around you computer or those contacts, they will surely rust. But hey, I'am no expert. I meanthis is the same guy who told me I was slipping on the dyno and then, there was no way I was slipping, then wait your probably slipping. Holy **** make up your mined. I'am sure it's fine. Scrap away!!! :D

Thanks for the help on the car today, damn that felt nice just to drive it again even though it was just up the road for a bit. Seems to be running pretty good for the most part. Way that it looks now those #30's are prob more then enough but Id rather have to much then not enough when it comes to fuel but the dyno will really tell where Im at.

I MADE IT PAST 4,000 RPMS!!! :banana: :banana:
