Stall Speed: Fact or Fiction?

After adding a decent 347 to my 65 coupe and a rebuilt AOD. Somone told me that if my stall speed is too low it will cause excessive wear to my new transmission. The new torque converter i put in has a 2000 stall speed. Is this too low?? My understanding is that a higher stall speed would give me more performance, but will the lower speed cause more wear and damage to my trans?? Thanks!

mine works fine with the C4.............i don't see how the stall speed can damage anything
 
fiction. the only thing that lower stall speed will do is lug the engine abit compared to a higher stall speed. a higher stall speed converter transmits very low torque to the trans until engine rpm comes up enough to get trans fluid moving enough to get the driven side of the converter moving. this allows the engine to get into its rpm range more quickly than a lower stall speed converter will. the drawback however is that the lower stall speed converter allows for engine braking, which is a good thing for the street, where as the higher stall speed converter doesnt.
 
The only kind of "damage" that a higher stall convertor causes is more heat..in general terms stall speed is "slippage" and the higher the stall speed the longer the "slipping" occurs..The 2000 stall on your convertor shouldn't cause any problems but make sure you have a good trans cooler..

forgot to mention that, good point. also the bigger the tranny cooler, the longer the fluid will last as the temps run lower. so dont be afraid to put a cooler on that is rated at like 26,000lb gvw.
