Everyone keeps tellin me to get a stall/torque converter in my 98 gt auto....lol.....i have no idea what one is or where it goes or wtf it does....lol.....can someone please explain.....tell me how much....and how much will it help quarter times
:Word: I got a PI Convertor w/ a 2800RPM stall and I absolutely love it!!svttech76 said:a looser converter like a 2800-3200 will allow the engine to be at a higher rpm ( hopefully near torque peak) quicker. you will be able to launch at a higher rpm while torque braking off the line ( holding the car against the brakes with your foot on the gas) plus you get the same effect when driving. when you go anymore than 1/4 down on the gas you will start to get close to the stall speed, this keeps you near the torque peak so you accelerate quicker.
many think you will always be at the stall speed and it would be like neutral below that. this is not true at all. when you are not on it the rpm's will only be slightly higher than driving with the stock stall.
IMHO a good stall converter is the second best mod for a auto. with gears being the best.

With stock tires, but with sticky tires id say .5 at least in the 1/4.04YELLOWGT said:Its like popin the clutch at a higher RPM is what Ive been told. I was also told I wouldnt like it but im still thinkin about getting one. I heard a good one 2800-3000 will drop my quater mile a 2-3 tenths.

i forgot about the locking ProCharger GT said:Right on - if your gonna do it, go with the triple disc (and I prefer locking) convertor
ProCharger GT said:A locking converter uses a mechanical clutch to connect the impeller and the turbine for the converter so there is no slippage, which results in less power lost and faster throttle response.
and most cars if not all taht are auto have them form factory for fuel economy and other stuff
