Ok its been awhile since I used the forums, and its been about 5yrs since I had the V6 swapped out for 5L. The local shop can't get their scanner to read the ECM and the BCM is still telling them its a V6 (not sure why they even hooked up to it). The car will just stall out when @ temp and in gear (normally after its been driven for over an hour) however it'll idle all day long (but put in gear and it'll stall after drving 50') then restart and the cycle continues until it won't start, leave it sit 1/2 hr and it'll start and drive fine again for a little while. We had the ignition coil fail on it, and replaced (as it was what caused the glitch in the first place) The local guys don't even want to look at it anymore. You fellows got any ideas?

Much Thanks
Sean

Try using a paperclip to pull codes.

Stick or automatic?

I assume you changed ECU but did you install the correct one? You want either a T4M0 or a W4H0. Diagnostic port for the GT is in the engine bay passenger side strut tower. The V6 was under the dash.

If it has a stock 3.27 rear, yes. Auto's with a stock 2.73 have the W4H0 computer.

Well it no longer has a stock rear end been running 373 for past 4 or 5yrs. This is something that just started, the car has ran pretty good for the past 3 or 4 yrs.

FWIW a failing/failed PIP may not result in a trouble code. Symptoms are typical for a PIP/stator failure.

pip code was a no show, maf needed cleaned, 1 o2 sensor wasn't getting any power. Car runs better, has more power, but unless I can get it to fail all the time instead of maybe today maybe tomorrow like it has been its a shot in the dark. Going to drive it some this weekend see if does it again, if it does will just replace the distrib assembly, and if that doesn't solve it the ignition module will be next, keep your fingers crossed! With the frankenstein nature of this car nothing fails to get me anymore! Engine & tranny from one car, harness and computer from another! blah blah blah...you guys know the drill!

The guy I found to help me with it is a Mustang guy himself.

Thanks for your help guys!

Update!

Still got the stalling issue, not the pip, I replaced the distrib with a new one. This is seriously frustrating as we are not getting an check engine light, it just dies, however I've had it coasting in neutral and start on its own! Any other ideas! Like any lame horse, sometimes you just got to put it down! I am at my wits end, no time to enjoy it and no cash left to fix it!

Sounds like it's the TFI module instead. At least that's a cheap fix so it's worth doing.
