StangNet Administration and Mods

I’m a member of many forums (mostly computer related) and each site has its own style and culture. Style and culture is made up of the members and the style of moderation that oversees what is posted. Each forum is not a democracy. It caters to some member’s “style” but in the end is run under the standards set by the administration… which is policed by the moderators.

I’m new here so I don’t have the influential weight of some long time members. Moderators are not paid (usually) and as on any forum, have personal opinions and views that influence how they react to a post. Overall, being a moderator is a thankless job with no rewards except the privilege of being shot at. That being said… I’ll go back to being a newbie on this forum and take in all the knowledge and wisdom of everyone who post here.

Well I would voice my thoughts, but then the thread would be locked, or I would be banned.
I've been in the situation you're in several times. The key to expressing yourself about something your passionate (without being banned) is to express yourself in what I call "controlled rage".

Write a draft or two. The first draft is full of all those 4 letter words that you want to say. The raw emotions of how you feel. It's necessary to do this first draft to vent all that venom and ager.

The second draft you cut out the 4 letter words and substitute words that are socially acceptable. The moderators know that a lot of people who are members here (and those who lurk) are under the age of 18. StangNet has a reputation to uphold and allowing 4 letter words does not reflect a professional forum to those who happen to be passing by.

The last version (and the one you post) is skillfully done so you express your point of view in a socially acceptable manner and such that a members 14 year old son can read it without asking Mom or Dad what **** means. Do that and you're on your way to being a politician and politically correct.

I guess free speech dosn't apply to stangnet......

Any why should it? Do you pay the bills to run the place? It all comes down to the terms and conditions of a public domain website such as StangNet. I am not trying to defend anyone, but on a different forum I was given a vacation for being a smart mouth and talking trash to a couple people who served it up to me. Fact of the matter, I broke the rules. I don't pay the bills, they do, they have the authority to do what they want. That's the bottom line.

It would be a lot more simple if people followed the rules.

Why do people not understand what "free speech" means? You ARE free to say what ever you want, any where you want. But SN is free to regulate what you say on THEIR forums.

Think of it this way. You have the right to tell your boss to *@^% off, but the result will be you will be looking for a new boss. Nobody can stop you from exercising your right, but you have to face the consequences for it...

But you have to admit it getting out of hand. They are banning people because they are talking about a get together, or a dyno shoot-out, or two friends making fun of each other. I mean, what is it without the smacktalk?? goofing on each other? What's next, we can't talk about getting together at 24hrSB because they are not a site sponcer? They just need to go away till we need them to change a screen name or something..... (my .02)

This is in no way defending or offending anyone, I just wanted to let you know that if your other post of get togethers led me to believe that you have not been on here in a while you may not understand what is going on around here lately.

To sum it up, a thread was started about a local shop actin shady, people got upset, it stirred the pot and got locked. That thrusted some people into a point where they wanted to know why, and eventually led to some banning. Right now other members are really upset due to the whole series of events. That is why you will find some animosity at this point... Hope this helps. You want to know anything else you can PM me...

I realize this is a touchy subject guys, but please remember to keep things civil. The users that were banned didn’t succumb to this fate simply because of a minor infraction of the rules. The events that conspired within said locked thread were only the catalyst, it was the actions these members chose to make after the fact and their decision to get belligerent with members, moderators and just showing a general disrespect for the board itself that sealed their fate.

Let's all just try to get along. :)

You can say whatever you want, you arent going to get lynched, but there are consequences. Just like you cant go out and say you are going to kill the president and think there are no consequences to face. Its just foolish. You cant cry out and say you are being neglected of the 1st, but rather you are abusing your right by thinking you can say whatever you want.

these "post FAST threads" need to stop.

Well... he went out with a bang. I've seen a lot of offensive sexual pictures posted on the Internet and he posted some nasty ones. Oh... and I learned a few new 4 letter words that I had to lookup on Google.

Talk about go out in a ball of fire.

Yep, I've been here for quite some time and have seen things change and people come and go. Yes, for those that have been here just as long, a lot has changed. But, if you don't like the management, do like I did recently with my job, I left it :)

I'm a member of a number of different forums, some car related, some not, some import, some domestic, etc. And I've gotta say ... as bad as some people around here seem to think SN is ... it's not. Really. Piss, moan, complain, and then go visit some other forums where the admins truly are nazis.

Think to yourself for a moment how much it costs to run a forum of this size. And consider how you go about keeping order with so many people all posting at once, so that as a whole people have an enjoyable experience.

It is a tough job, and I'm willing to bet it doesn't pay well.

And most importantly, please consider that the tone of the forum is NOT set by the rules, the admins, or the moderators. It is set by the users, pure and simple.

[H] is a forum where the Admins rule with absolute power... absolutely.

They can, and will, ban you for nothing more than disliking the color of your AV. 4 letter words fly around as a normal way of expressing ones self. It's a bunch of tetostrone filled bullies that prey on new members and the moderators eat their own members

Get out of SN for a day or two and visit some other sites. You'll come back here with an appreciation of how things are fair and cordial compared to the the many slaughter houses that host truly offensive threads... with the contempt of a Nazi at a Jewish wedding.
