Generally one does not want to use a super low (numerically high) gear to compression start a motor. For instance, I use 2nd or 3rd (you need just enough rolling inertia to turn the motor over). I think standards (i.e. UJM's) are easier to hop on and pop. I tried not to kick the fairings on the 750 or literbike while running - that was hard enough for a big ol' guy like me.

go-stang5.0 said:I'd like to see how this goes. I have the same problem, but my old starter did this and the new stock replacement one does it too. It did it on my 306 and my current 331 and neither have LT's. I also got some of that DEI heat insulating wrap and wrapped the starter and it does not help any. I finally gave up and now I just let it sit a min. or two. and it usually cranks quick enough to get the car started.

I had my main ground inside there and I thought that might have been a problem so I moved it to the frame rail where the quad shock mount used to be on the pass. side (quads removed so I have no need for the mount). Cleaned it real good, torqued it to 80 ft-lbs, and covered it in rubberizer (undercoating stuff) to keep it from corroding. I doubt that's the problem. Any other ideas?
