Generally one does not want to use a super low (numerically high) gear to compression start a motor. For instance, I use 2nd or 3rd (you need just enough rolling inertia to turn the motor over). If you have had to pop start crotchrockets, you know the importance of using a higher gear.Rjovi said:Why is this?

I think standards (i.e. UJM's) are easier to hop on and pop. I tried not to kick the fairings on the 750 or literbike while running - that was hard enough for a big ol' guy like me.![]()

It did it on my 306 and my current 331 and neither have LT's. I also got some of that DEI heat insulating wrap and wrapped the starter and it does not help any. I finally gave up and now I just let it sit a min. or two. and it usually cranks quick enough to get the car started.

I had my main ground inside there and I thought that might have been a problem so I moved it to the frame rail where the quad shock mount used to be on the pass. side (quads removed so I have no need for the mount). Cleaned it real good, torqued it to 80 ft-lbs, and covered it in rubberizer (undercoating stuff) to keep it from corroding. I doubt that's the problem. Any other ideas?
