When my 65 has been sitting in the garage for a couple days and I start it, it fires right up w/ no problems at all. However if I have been driving fo r a half hour or so, turn it off and start it again, it turns over and over and over and if I am lucky, it will start in under 30 seconds.

Why is this?

i have had a similar problem. I think its because the fuel in the intake is heated up from the engine and turned into a vapor which sticks to the inside surface of the intake. You may need to buy a thinker gasket.

Dang... I have the opposite situation. Hope you figure out what your cause is, it may help me as well..My '66 will take about 20-30 seconds to start cold, but when it's warm and I cut-off it'll start back up within a few seconds of cranking..

Maybe you guys have a drain in the battery? We had our alternator wires crossed, so after driving and killing it, then trying to start it again it was real hard to start. If it was parked overnight then tried, it would start fine. As for not starting up to well when it's cold, these carbed motors don't like cold starts and there's really no way around that. It starts up just fine if you cut it off then turn it back on, because it is still warm.

I get what you're saying about the starting cold... but it's 80° weather here in SA most often, and 90° in the summer and it still takes a lot of cranking to get it started... I'm ready for the EFI to go in so I can be done with it all. But - I love how the carb'd engine sounds, I know I'm going to miss it alot.

Lol, 80 dgree weather sounds much much nicer. I didn't realize that,. It shouldnt be too hard to start. Mine's a pain in the ass to start in the mornings here in Oklahoma when its around 40 degrees.

hehe, yea I know - I can't wait to go visit my grandparent's in OK. They're right about near lawton area, and I Love the scenery out there. OT... my bad.

yup I have the same problem as the original poster, it starts great when cold, but anytime during the day it will take a lot of cranks to get her going. I have an electric choke on my carb... I'm clueless about how to fix it, I was thinking of replacing the fuel pump and alternator

Noun 1. vapor lock - a stoppage in a pipeline caused by gas bubbles (especially a stoppage that develops in hot weather in an internal-combustion engine when fuel in the gas line boils and forms bubbles that block the flow of gasoline to the carburetor)
