Starting another custom audio build

you should perfect and sell it. i'll be placing my order right now!

That's an idea that has crossed my mind a few times. Mike (my company's co-owner) and I work well together on projects like this. We hope to add a CNC router to our shop next year, and this will enable some pretty neat things.

dderek, I'll try to snap pics at each major step. Thanks for the props!

:nice:

Got the trunk lined in aluminum foil last night, and for the first time we used clear packing tape instead of masking tape. We'll see if that's less mess. It should release from the fiberglass though, at least in theory.

Time to grab the camera and head to the shop...

Started the tire well enclosure yesterday, and it went quite well. Nice and hot weather always helps keep curing times short without the need for a "hot" mix of resin.

I didn't get to shoot any pics of the first layer, but will get some as it is built up.

No exciting pics yet. It's been too damn hot to work on the system. Our shop has been around 105* lately, and a fan just doesn't cut it. Luckily, fiberglass curing times are very quick.

The tire well tub is done. We'll attach the top and set the JL iso-plate in place this weekend. I'll post pics of that, since it's a pretty rare part we're using.

Still trying to figure out what to do with the amp.

Hang in there, as there should be some stuff to look at this weekend.

All right, you guys broke me down! I went back in the shop and snapped a few pics of the sub box as it sits now.

Here is the tire well tub, edges have not been trimmed yet:

And in the car (really looks different with a flash!):

Here's the coveted JL Audio isoplate. Not many of these around anymore:

Loaded with subs and set in place. An MDF top plate will allow this plate to sit flush with the trunk floor. The isoplate will be shot with Titanium Frost to match the car:

Another look. These are old-school JL 8W6 subs, for anyone keeping score:

More work to come, hope this tides you over for a little bit. LOL

Any questions, just fire away.
