I have a t-5 swaped into my 289 65 mustang. always had problems with the starter. the original starter i had the nose was not long enough and it would grind off the tip of the starter gear. I found a starter from a 79 mustang(my first stick was from a 79) it always worked, even after i put in the t-5, but the the other day it started screewing up all i get is the worst grinding sound i have ever heard. any way, got a new one. it worked for one day and i started getting the same grinding problem. gears on the flywheel are fine i think it is a 157 tooth fly wheel with 28 ounce balance. the plate between the transmission and the engine is from a 65 and does not really match up to the t-5 bellhousing, but that doesnt seem like it would effect the starter to me
