OK guys I've been fighting with this car for 4 days now..
I've searched extensively, gone through all of jrichker's checklists, and I'm out of ideas at this point.
Here's what's going on. Car is a 90 GT 5 spd.
With key in run, there's no power to the EEC Relay or Fuel Pump Relay (no switching power - there is hot 12V on the other lines). Grounding the Fuel Pump Test wire has no effect. Computer dumps codes 67 and 87, related to bad fuel circuits. Grounding pin 22 has no effect.
There's also no power on the red coil wire.
And here is what I've done:
I've jumpered the 12V power lines at both EEC and FP relays, and I've jumpered a hot 12V from the battery to the coil power wire.
When I turn the key to run, I get a brief fuel pump noise - it sounds like it's running at 30% power and tapers off in to nothing. Fuel pressure hangs at about 6 psi. If I do _not_ depress the clutch (to keep the starter from engaging) and turn the key to start, the fuel pump kicks on fully and gets to about 38 psi. It only stays on while the key is all the way to start like I'm trying to turn the car over.
At this point, if I put the clutch in and turn the key, the car will start. But as soon as I release the key, no more fuel pressure. If I release the clutch only and hold the key, the starter solenoid switches back off but I keep the fuel pump going at 38 psi.
I don't think it's my starter switch - I pulled the whole steering column out of a 91 and hooked it up. It acted differently - nothing at all happened when the key was in run, but turning it to start would cause all the things that happened with the 90 column in run to happen - door open dinger, interior lights, gimped fuel pump priming, plus it would turn over.
So, ideas? I'm heading out to run good some good 12V and a couple hardline switches to fuel pump and coil power so the car at least runs. Here's hoping you guys come up with something simple I've missed like a fuse link...
