steeda caster camber plate problems

hello everyone I am a new member and I am looking for a little help.
I have steeda 4 bolt cc's on my car and I get this bad "klunking" noise which is the best way I can describe it. it occurs when I hit bumps in the road and it sounds so bad, has anyone had anything similiar and if so what did you do to fix it??

You might want to double check that your struts are properly seated in the CC plate and that the nut on top of the shock is tight enough. Something similar happend to me. I jacked the car up and and noticed there was play between the top of the strut and the bottom of the CC Plate. Hope this helps.

Had the same problem

I had a set of the CC Plates on my 03 GT and returned them after a few months. The noise was driving me crazy same as you discribed. Maximum Motorsport has the best from everything I've read, I however re-installed the stock plates and had the alignment shop set it up to Steeda specs. No problem with tire wear but I rotate every 3000 miles.

I just had maximum motorsports cc plates installed no problems. I think there is something else wrong here I have driven and been a passenger in numerous cars with cc plates and never heard "clunking" sometimes a little more road noise but that clunk you described sounds like an incorect install or another problem.

Your strut may be bottoming out. What setting did you use when installed the strut spacers.

I also have this problem. I used the stock struts with Steeda Sport lowering springs. I used the setup with one bearing underneath the plate and two one top. It is to be used with stock struts and up to a 1.5" drop.

I have heard that it could be because the bolt on top is not tight... I just installed these yesterday and they were fine then (at least I didn't notice then) but today they clunk. Could it just be the springs setting-in?

You might want to check underneath the c/c plate to ensure you don't have any extra space underneath it and the top on the strut. When I installed my c/c plates I had the top of the strut get caught on the edge of the c/c plate. It seemed like it was firmly seated with threads out of the top of the c/c plate to put the large nut on. However, when I reached my hand up underneath the fender, under the c/c plate I found that there was about 1/2" of space. I had to loosen up the adjustment bolts on the c/c plate and then wiggle it a little while jacking up from underneath the strut which got things to seat 100% at which point I tightened the nut on top. I would think that if things weren't seated properly that you could wind up getting the clunking noise.

Oops, I just said the same exact thing that Wes said. Sorry about that. Another thing to check is the dampener on your strut. Are you using the stock struts or something else?

Was that what was wrong with yours? There was something just not seated right so it had play in it, hence the clunking? I got steeda c/c plates installed the other weeks with my springs and I have the same clunking sound. Only happens when Im backing up slowly or going forward slowly. I also on hear it from the left front. Could this be the same thing Ive got the day off tomorrow so Ill hunt to see if I see any slack.

Just jacked my car up on both sides and felt around the strut to see if I felt a gap. To me both sides feel equal They both do however feel like they are kinda tilted. Say your looking dead at the car....

Its no where near that sharp of a slant, but its to give you an idea. I had a full alignment done after the install, wouldnt they have noticed if it wasnt seated correctly? Should it be 100% flush?
Not trying to hijack the thread, just trying to figure out what the heck is making that annoying clunking sound Glad its not just me!!!

I chased that 'clunk' for months...I finally took the C/C plate (Steeda 3-bolt) off and re-assemebled and the strut off the car to make sure everything was seating correctly...it turned out the C/C plate's ball joint has a little up and down slop/play in it...(only the right side one, the left is real snug)...

I'm looking to replace the Steeda plates with ones with a rubber or urethane upper mount to quiet and maybe smooth the ride some...

Well after looking at the car more closely, the strut is flush against the c/c plate. Its just the rubber piece on top is slightly off.
I was actually told mransr's theory the other day. Apparently there is some joint that has a bushing that goes bad with the steeda c/c plates. The bad bushing allows for "play" and metal on metal contact, thus creating our "cluncking" sound. Shop said several guys had sent theirs back to steeda, and steeda just sent them a new one that worked fine. Sounds like this could be our problem
