Steeda New Spyder Rims..OPINIONS

I know this is not the 2011 forum but I trust my buds' opinions over here.

Looking at getting these when I get my GT/CS in a couple months. The car will be Silver/Black. Also any performance issues with upgrading to 20" rims?

What do you think about them in 20"? Doesnt that affect the off-the-line speed of the car?

Might a little I'd think due to a little added weight, probably not enough to worry about if it does. You'll just have to mod it to make up for it lol.

IDK if theyre going to be heavier..According to Steeda, theyre supposed to be lighter weight rims..i just meant do the SIZE of the 20's affect speed. Ive seen plenty of chargers with larger rims and they look hot.

Larger tires will affect your acceleration off the line in a negative way. More rotating mass means your engine has to work harder to overcome the inertia. For an auto, changing out your tire size will also affect your shift points and obviously the speedo / tach. You'll get better highway mileage and worse city mileage.

But the question is, are you actually changing the "height" of the tire (measured from ground to the top of the rubber) or just the size of the rim, and decreasing the size of the tire sidewall so that the height stays the same?

I think the 20s are 285/35. I may just downside to 18" for better selection and lower price.

those rims look sweet, but i'm not a fan of black. silver or anthracite would be much better (IMO)

also, thinner sidewalls make for less flex. so traction will suffer some

I don't think those rims will be a whole lot heavier. The tires are going to be a fortune, and the ride quality is going to make your dentist wealthy. Those rims are 20" to clear the brakes Steeda is putting on the car now. Holy Jesus, 15" rotors on the new Steeda stang. That is amazing. the 11' Steeda Stang is also up to 690hp.

How about these:

They can do Nitto 555's and 18/9 up front with 255s and 18/10 out back with 285s for about $1600 Shipped.

What do you all think about downsizing from 19s to 18s instead of upsizing to 20s?

Means it's going to rattle your teeth out, and your dentist will reap the benefits. Honestly, it's probably not that bad though. Certainly be a little bumpier than riding on an 18" rim though.

I think they look awesome, and I think the wheel well on the S197s is beg enough to handle a 20 without looking cartoonish.

You're going to get a stiffer ride, assuming the same overall tire height, but that's probably not all bad. I would imagine that the Steedas mounted will weigh less than the stock wheels/tires, so shouldn't be any performance loss from rotating mass. Shorter sidewalls do equal less tire flex, so possibility of some traction loss, but probably not any significant deal there. What is comparison from overall tire height stock versus new? That'll tell you if there's any effective final gear ratio change, and to what extent.

An 18" on what car though? SN95 or S197?
S197
285/40/R18 = 4.48
285/30/R20 = 3.36

SN95
275/35/R18 = 3.78
285/35/R18 = 3.92
248/45/R17 = 4.34


Using numbers from cruizin concepts tire packages.....an 18" wheel on a S197 will have more tire than our stock 17" tires.....thats a BIG clue they are too small IMO If you want tire, get a wheel that is meant for it....dont get a "stylish" wheel and go short on the size...doesnt look good.


A 18" on a S197 is like a 16" on a SN95. If a 18" is optimal looks wise for a SN95...you gotta step it up for the S197. I have grown to like 19" on our cars now...probably due to every other car on the road getting larger wheels from the factory.

I had a 245/45/17 on my car on stock tri bars. I upgraded to the 18" mach 1 wheel with a 275/35/18 all around. It was NOT "bumpy" after....i'd describe it as being more sensitive and transmitting more road noise. It definately wasnt like putting a 22" wheel on a charger or monte carlo.


Bottom line, decide what you want...styling or performance. 18s are just too small for those wheel wells. I'd relate the 20" on the S197 to a 18" on a SN95. Many run 17's...which would be like a 19" on a S197.....but that limits your selection 10 fold. So to go to an 18" is like running a 16" on a sn95........and thats just not right


Now running a drag wheel with a big tire looks good on either...dont think you wanna go that route though.

Good Description Nate...The 20's are just TOO expensive (tire upkeep)and limited...19's are WAY too limited. I just love the FR500 replicas in black chrome, and the rears will have 18x10, which should fill the rear well as much as the stock 19x8.5. Not sure yet...if they made a FR500 in 19s then I would be set.

The best looking cars look good because the whole package works together. Just like the cars that make the best power....do so because all the parts work together.

You wouldnt take a black car, put black rims on it, then leave the windows clear. Same thing with doing a silver car...with silver rims and black accents. Tinted windows complete the "look" IMO.

Gotcha on the tints..Im in S. FL, so that's automatic with every car.

Are you saying the Silver/black accents rims WOULD or WOULD not look good IYO?

i may be intersted in the wheels you take off, i need to see if i can make them work on my 86. i think they would look awsome on an older car . and tose machined ones will look great on your new car
