steering problem

Im trying to figure out why I have a excessive amount of play in my steering on my 1986 mustang lx ,It like happend all the suden while driving home ,I thought I blew the power steering pump but I still have steering and ther is no leaking fluid so Im not sure ,ther is just alot of play in the steering wheel ? any ideas?
