My sterring wheel wiggles....it doesnt feal like column or pinions etc. nothing serious....it seems like a loose nuts and bolt thing up top.....so i was wondering is there a mount,or or rubber thing that holds it to stay still???? or a way to fix this...i could tell this is a common problem. cause my steering components are not shot!

I posted about this exact thing a month or so ago....search for posts that i've made and you'll see it. I was told there is in fact a nut/bolt deal in there that can be tightened but i haven't gotten around to looking into it. Mine is BAD.

being your sig says your car is a 88 I assume it has tilt. Mine did the same thing. I took the cover off that covers the column and it was a bolt that had came loose right near the signal/washer switch. take the cover off and wiggle the wheel and you will see what I mean. 5 min fix

Fox steering shafts have the rubber rag joint that gets weak too. If it isn't a column problem check that. My 91 was very sloppy, I didn't replace it, but I should.

+1. I have had this happen before in my 88 and 89.

I suggest checking 3 things:

The 4 bolts that hold the brackets for the column to the bottom of the dash. If these get loose the wheel and column will move around. Easy to tighten

The two pivot bolts in the tilt wheel setup. You will need to remove the plastic covers over the column. There is one on each side, and they look more like studs or headless bolts, but they are what the wheel pivots up and down on. Someone else described them pretty well here.

The rag joint. If it is worn, you will have play in the steering. Yours sounds like one of the other two though..

Well that does it, i've gotta dig into mine tomorrow and take care of it. The last time i took it for a cruise it was blatantly obvious how much it jiggled. I'm certain that mine is right at the tilt section too because i've grabbed a hold of the column and tried to move it but it's tight, it's just the wheel itself that moves.

It's a pretty common thing actually.

For good measure, use a little Loctite on the threads. :nice:
