Hey guys, the running pony logo on my steering wheel seems to be deteriorating. There are little whiteish flecks on it that I can't seem to rub off. However, I can't tell if it's pitting, or what it is. Almost looks like some sort of corrosive was sprayed on it or something. I've never put anything on it except for some Armor All. Anyone have any idea what this is or if I can fix it? Here's a pic of what I'm talking about:

Looks like ford used some kind of plating for the silver bits and it's flaking off...

Okay, so it's not just me. Anyone think if we brought our cars in they would replace the emblem for us under warranty?

I've heard a lot of people have had this problem. Many that have not used any cleaners on the steering wheel, also.

Mine did that quite some time ago. I also use Armor All Original. To me, it looks as if it's under the clear surface

Anyone know if they sell replacements, or if there's an aftermarket alternative, or how to safely replace it?

I bet if you got a replacement from Ford and hit it with a few coats of clearcoat before replacing it, it might hold up.

It appears to be deteriorate from the inside (underneath that clear coating). I've seen this happen before on a Ford exterior emblem where the chromed plastic underneath a clear coating (about 1/4" thick) started to delaminate, where the chrome peels off or wears out even though it has never been touched or exposed to the elements.

My guess is it's part of the airbag assembly, and those don't come cheap... Though you could probably pry it off, probably glued in place, and glue something else in it's place. But it would have to be custom, I searched Roush, Saleen and steed and none of them have their's for sale.

It's held on with three small tabs. It's easily replaceable.

On another board, a guy pried it off and it had 6 tabs.

I meant 3 tabs, per side

Ok, so I thought I remembered 3, guess there's six. Anyway, I know it's just a few tabs holding it in.

Is there a cool replacement I could buy? I never liked the V6 emblem on my GT steering wheel.

I searched a thread for emblems a while back and a guy took his car to the ford dealership and they wouldnt replace it because they said it was part of the airbag assembly....and yes mine is doing it too.
