I just purchased new rims and new tires, had them balanced and mounted and an alignment done. I am still getting the bad vibration in the steering wheel at around 50-65mph. I was getting this same vibration with my old tires and rims. So I can eliminate it being a tire, rim, alignment, or balancing problem. I don't think it would be the rotors because if it was I would feel it only when applying the brakes, right?? What else could it be?? Wheel bearings, U-joints?? How hard are those to check and fix? What do those cost?? This is really driving me nuts!! Someone please help me with this!! I searched and never really found anyone announcing that they found the answer to this..

Let's try some simple tests to try to further isolate a cause:

Try applying the brakes lightly and see if the vibration changes. You might have a front caliper that does not release fully (worn lip seal) or a pad that is binding on the guide rail. This is along shot, as this sort of vibration is usually also felt at low speeds.
Does the vibration feel the same if you are coasting at the same speed in neutral? If not, could be a driveline related cause.
If you jack the front and spin both tires slowly by hand, cvan you feel any increase in resistance at any point (bearing or caliper)?
A warped rotor would cause pulsation and/or vibration when the brakes are applied as well as high speed vibration. But an unbalanced rotor would act just like an unbalanced wheel/tire. Another long shot, as I can't figure out how a rotor could suddenly become unbalanced but not warped. It would be worth the effort to measure rotor runout with a dial gauge.

Had the same problem with my old 99 GT Vert. Changed wheels and tires, still had the problem. Checked the driveshaft, as the vibration could also be felt on the shifter. Found no problem. The vibration was nasty at 55-65 mph.
I put stock wheels and tires back on, still had the problem. Had it at the dealer numerous times to no avail.

So...... I sold it and bought the 02 GT :nice:

I'll give these ideas a shot. I don't know about the stuts though. How would that cause vibration in the steering wheel at certain speeds?
Struts dampen the little vibes and bumps in the road. When they cease being able to do this (well), they transfer the vibes into the entire front end, including the steering wheel.
I'd take it to a good, trusted front end / tire shop and have them test drive it to get their opinion. Take it back to the people who mounted and balanced your tires in the first place and tell them what it's doing.

I think I solved the problem!! I took it to Pep Boys and told them to turn my rotors which they swore up and down, would not fix the steering wheel vibration while driving, not braking. Anyways I told them to do it anyways. He could only turn them so much because they are already close to needing replaced. So we decided to turn them as much as he could instead of getting new ones because I will get slotted and cross drilled if I ever replace them. Anyhow after he finished he told me to take it down the road and come back to tell him how it was. I did that and the vibration was like 90% less than it was. So , it probably would be totally eliminated if I were to replace the rotors since he couldn't turn them as much as he wanted to. I don't know maybe it's in my head because I wanted it to be fixed so bad or maybe I am just hitting a lucky streak for now. Maybe it could act up the next time out with the car. All I know is that it didn't do it all the way home on the highway.
