Hey all, (especially 68EFIvert)
Tried the Hedman 88300 on the recommendation of the Steeroids site and another Steeroids owner, but they were a no-go. The shop is recommending shorty headers that go far back before they go down. It looks like JBA is the safest bet. Does anyone else have any input or is this just a post for future Steeroids customers with headers? Happy to help or be helped either way.

I posted this over on VMF as well. To install or remove the headers I have to drop the rack down. Disconnect the steering joint from the rack and then take the 4 bolts off where the rack bolts to the cradle. You shouldn't have to unhook the hoses. If you still need more clearance take the tie rods off the rack. Once that is done you should not have a problem. If you run lowered engine mounts like me the DS header will be close enough to the dust boot on the rack that it may melt it slightly. Not enough to do any damage to the rack but just flattens out the rubber a little. If running standard mounts I don't see this being an issue.

will try from below, they said "no go" from the top

with the engine lowered in with headers attached. The shop said it's pretty much a no-go, but I'll see if they'll let me work underneath the car and get them installed as you recommended - that's a good explanation, thanks.

My only concerns about my setup being different than yours are: "what if the exhaust ports are at a different height or angle?" and "what if they did something different to the steering linkage with my modified original '70 column than you did with your (stock collapsible? aftermarket?) column.

Wicked65, they are RMP stock height motor mounts and RHS ProAction heads FWIW.

I have a 67 coupe with the steeroids power rack as well. I some older flowtech long tubes on the car right now. I asked my alignment shop what I would have to do to replace them and they also said unbolting the rack and dropping it down as much as I could would really be the only way. Just like darreld said. BTW, I got the rack because of him. Great rack in my opinion, I love it.

Is that you Chad? On a side note. I added a GM Saginaw pump to my car this past winter and the rack has an even better feel. It has a better feel and not so easy to turn due to less pressure/flow.

I picked up the pump from O'Reiley's for $55. I ended up having to make a bracket because of my blower setup but you can pick up a bracket from March Performance that will work. I think they charge a little over $125 for it. It is technically for a serpentine setup so I don't know if the spacing is correct for a standard belt setup. That shouldn't be a big deal though. Add or remove from the spacers until it lines up with your belts. If you want to test it out some time before you buy it you can take my car for a spin to see how you like the feel. Let me know. You going to the Mustangs Unlimited show on the 31st of July?
