so yeah my gt has that gay non-tilting wheel so i got one with tilt off of ebay & i installed it ok... so here lies my tiny little problem... my lights work & blinkers BUT theres 2 wires that didn't hook up & my air bag light is flashing because now i do not have one && i don't have a horn... & im assuming that the 2 wires one was the airbag & the other was cruise? can someone who may have done this help me?

everything should have plugged up fine. unless you got a tilt column that doesnt have cruise where you had it before. or vise versa. you should have only had one wire left with a grey connector on it. pictures would be nice.

You need to cut the power to either the light or the air bag control box

What year is your mustang? what year column did you swap in?

So was it a direct swap? How do you like having the tilt?

I've been thinking about putting one in my '90, kinda weird there isn't tilt steering in the newer fox cars..

Keep in mind it's also illegal. Get in a wreck and when the police and insurance find out that you've tampered with the air bag (removed it) you're probably going to be in some trouble.

There wasn't a tilt with the airbag because airbag tech back then was pretty new...there also wasn't a horn in the center of the wheel like most are today, they had buttons on the sides because they didn't know how to make the horn work with the airbag.

Technically a blown airbag can be cause enough to total out a car. My buddy bought a Focus that was totaled because it got in a mild fender bender and blew the air bag. He put a new bumper cover on it and got a salvage title...he basically spent 3k for a brand new Focus.

it's amazing, i can't get enough of it... lol because my driver seat has that "detroit lean" to it & i couldn't see over the sterring wheel without drivin wit my chin up because im only 5'4'' lol and it was a pain in the ass to drive like that... but now its so comphy & cozy i loves it. its like a new car again haha but yeah it wasn't as hard as i was told to do instead of takin the actual wheel of the column i left it on when i pulled it out haha it was the funniest thing ever me & my dad laughed for like 1 1/2 hours about it n i sat on the ground pretending to drive

Someone did a write up on The Corral.

-Now for that annoying airbag light that is flashing on your instrument console! Open the dash pod and gain access to the back of the instrument pod. REMOVE the light bulb directly behind that airbag symbol. This will avoid the visual warning, but brings with it a audible alarm.

-There are two blue cased modules beneath the dash which require your attention. The first is accessible through the glove compartment. Open the glove compartment and find the "auxilliary power supply", blue case thing just above the left most corner of the opening. Disconnect the wiring and remove the box, if you like.

-The other device resides directly behind the center console, on top of the drive shaft tunnel. I did not remove this box, but did disconnect the wiring running into it. From the driver side, find the blue box and disconnect the electrical connector. This should remove any warning.

Now for the legal information:

I spoke with DMW and highway patrol about legal implications of this change. Since this is considered a "Supplimental Restraint" it is not criminally a problem. However, if you are ever selling the car, the purchaser could file a civil suit based your removing the airbag. PLEASE PLEASE check with your local DMV office before making this change.

honestly, i didn't think that it would have been a problem. it's seemed like a wonderful idea & it works like a champ. & i actually enjoy driving my car, and i don't get out with a stiff neck now. question - what happens if like i were to sell the car & never told the buyer that i had done the swap & played it off like it was like that when i bought it... or is that like a no-no? i personally - don't think i'll ever sell this car because i have big plans & a bright future for this car. but it's just a random "what if" question, not that i'd everrrr do that.

Not trying to hijack the thread but can a 94 and newer column be swapped in with functioning airbag, horn, cruise and tilt? Plus it's better than the 90-93 wheels.

Mustanggirl try driving with a 4 inch cowl hood with not tilt and the seat leaning a bit to the inside, having to lean up when taking some curvies gets rough after a while and I'm 5'8"

I seen pics of foxes with SN95 steering wheels, it dosent seem that difficult of a swap, try doing a google search.

I always wondered how shorter people could see over the dash/wipers/steering wheel of a fox or SN95 mustang. I'm 6'0 and if I was any lower I'd feel uncomfortable driving it, I remember back when I was a 5'8 teenager and thought it was hard to see over a SN95 dash at a dealership.
