Stewart Performance water pump vs. factory, pics inside

I don't think this is the end all of water pumps but its only $75 more then the Ford unit so its worth a try.
It was developed by Stewart and SHM, i'm no Sean Hyland fan but he is knowledgeable so his input is worth something.

specs from SHM site

"The pump flows 6.4% more than the stock pump, uses .2 hp (7%) less than the stock pump, and peak efficiency is 36% compared to 29% for the stock pump. At 6000 rpm, the pump flows 45.5 gpm at 36 psi, using only 2.8 hp."

01 Steed...

I didn't really mean to cap on you but just that I was backing up what I said. No hard feelings.

What you say is true as far as Ford having to deal with Fed requirements and such but as you pointed out there are better choices to stock pieces. That is all we were getting at.

Guys, you don't have to cap all over me for what I've said here. Gimme a friggin' break! You believe what you want. You can't base your opinions of how much is spent in R&D on what a company "reports" as profit. Like it or not, Stewart does NOT spend more money on R&D than Ford. Period. You can lump Vortech in there as well.

I said NOTHING about the performance of our engines. But if you want to go there, no problem. Think about what it takes to bring a powertrain to market?? Dealing with the EPA, CAFE, accountants, manufacturing processes, countless suppliers....the list goes on. If all we had to worry about was performance, there would be no aftermarket because you'd have the best performing (power wise) parts from the factory.

As far as Steeda reporting cavitation at 4500....think about that. What is one of Steeda's best sellers to Stangers???.......Bingo! Underdrive pulley kits. Of course they're gonna tell you the stockers cavitate. They want you to buy u/d pullies.

That being said, go ahead and piss away your money on that stupid pump.

I have to agree here:nice:

correct but ALL the pumps now have the anti-cavation plate on them, even the early pumps we're upgraded

hmmmmmmmmmmm... i bought a stock replacement for my 96 and what was delivered was the open type that was only last year, have they been changed since then.... I figure next time ill buy a 99 pump just to be sure...

there again, this was from ford parts online, not an actual dealer...

by the way Randy, thanks for sourcing that key for me... it looks like it'll work .. :nice:

not a problem:D now the water pumps were replaced/upgraded @2 years ago, so it sounds like you got old stock, maybe:shrug:
