Sticks in reverse every now and then...what causes that?

Just like the title says...reverse sticks from time to time.

I can't get it out with clutch in or out and I put a considerable amount of force behind it to try to "force" it out.

To get it out, I have to back it up a bit more, obviously getting something to turn in there.

What causes it? Simple fixes?

I haven't noticed a problem with reverse. I knew the t45's have had the reverse problem. This was a bit different than I was used too. It goes in fine, but a couple times now in a couple weeks it sticks in reverse. The only way I could get it out of reverse was if I was to break something internally.

there is a TSB for the T-45 transmission and one of the concerns is this. Do you also have grinding going into reverse or a hard time going into reverse?

the fix involves shift fork replacement.
any special or extended warranties on the T-45? i know its an old tranny, but theres no shame in asking.

How is your clutch cable adjustment? if it engages way low on the pedal you can have this problem..... You need 2 inches of free play near the floor befors the clutch begins to engage. I would check that next

do you need a clutch adjuster kit or is there another way to do it besides the pulling it up method?

and my t45 has to be completely stopped before it goes into reverse

try pulling up on the pedal firmly a few times untill you hear a click. If that don't work then you can do a manual adjustment. Here is a link to how to manualy adjust the quadrant.

I had that trouble too. Had to have the entire tranny rebuilt because it would not come out of reverse at all. Turns out that when my guy opened the case, the entire 5th gear/reverse rail fell out. Well, I guess that will happen after 96 thousand miles.

I miss my T45! Never had any issues with it, TOB chirp aside.

I took my car in for the T-3650 shift grind, and after the 'fix' it became a PITA getting my car into reverse when it's hot outside. People behind me probably wonder what the hell is going on seeing my reverse lights go on again & again & again but I don't move.

I'm about 200 miles from 96,000 miles, my time is near:p
