Stiff throttle pedal?

Hey guys,

Another quick question, the gas pedal in my 88 feels a bit stiff, by that I mean more stiff than any other foxbody I've driven recently (a buddy of mine bought one recently and we test drove a few others), could it just be the throttle cable that goes through the firewall, or could it be the spring (someone told me this, I would assume they mean the spring up by the throttle body?). Anyways just asking to see if you guys could point me in the right direction. Thanks again

i had a problem with mine, being that it was hard to push it sometimes. turns out my problem was that the ford racing valve covers i put in were a tiny bit to high and had little slits in it and the throttle assembly would get stuck on the valve covers just slightly. just a thought....if u have aftermarket valve covers you might want to look at that

Thanks for the info, unfortunately it is no help as the engine is completely stock, anyone else care to share their 2 cents?

The cable insulator could be frayed/scorged internally, therefore giving you the headache without visually appearing flawed.

I had to buy a new one (dealer item) for between $80-105 .... can't remember the cost, but it made a night and day difference

Ya today I went to the dealership and ordered the cable for 80 bucks but i figured it would be hopefully worth it in the long run. Thanks for the replies

the easy test would have been: have someone hold the throttle open (the butterfly) manually with their hand (via the linkage on the TB). get inside and push the pedal - if it is now easy, your butterfly is bound up. if the pedal is still hard, the cable is at fault. heat will kill cables. also, if you have an insufficient motor ground (ie you did a 3G upgrade, but did not run another motor to frame ground) or your motor grounds are cruddy, the cables get scavenged for use as grounds.
