Ok, ever since I bought my car in march '03, the tranny has been pretty tough to get into gear. Some days are even worse then others. I just recently installed a new Pro 5.0 shifter and bushing, thinking that would help the problem, but to no avail. Then I saved up for a firewall adjuster, quadrant, and clutch cable hoping to get some smoother shifting out of it, but still it's the same it always has been.

Now, the T5 was rebuilt about 3-4 years ago (about 50k miles) so it doesn't have too much mileage on it. I have a couple friends with T5s in their mustangs, and theirs seem to shift a lot smoother and it's much easier to get into gear.

I've messed around with the firewall adjuster a bit, but whether the clutch grabs off the floor or almost at the top, it's still difficult to get into gear. This problem is really getting to me, and it's costing me a lot of money. My mechanic checked the pilot bearing about a month ago, and he said he doesn't think that's the problem.

What do u guys think about this? I would really like to get this resolved. Is it definitely something with the tranny? The clutch? Should I take it to a tranny specialist? What else can I check?

When I had this problem I ignored it. Than finally my throw out bearing (in the clutch) broke and caused a horrible screeching sound. When I got that fixed the problem was fixed also. Might be your problem.

you might want to get a new mechanic - if you had that problem specifically addressed by him, and he yanked the trans and clutch to look at the pilot bearing, but the problem is still there..................

not quite sure why he went straight to the pilot bearing. that's the last thing that would cause that problem.

i run into this frequently, and say adjustment, but if you say it still does it when you have the clutch adjusted to grab at the top.....

Do this, Jack up the rear and jack-stand it where the wheels are off the ground. fire her up, leave it in first, and leave your foot on the clutch. If the wheels are spinning. Your adjustment is too loose, tighten until the wheels stop spinning. If your wheels aren't spinning, then you are disengaging all the way, and the adjustment isn't your problem.

worst case scenario? maybe t/o bearing problem, maybe it pushed through the pressure plate?? or trans problem, maybe clutch

Have you checked the fluid level on your t5??? check the fluid level, fill with atf.

get back to us let us know what you find out.

I checked the fluid recently and it's right where it should be, so that's not the problem. I will try that thing with the jack stands and see what I can find out.
Thanks
