Stock 07 GT rim questions

I have the 17" machined rims on my 2007 GT vert. I want to go with different rims but I don't know enough about the varying types of wheels that are available. So here are my questions if someone could help me out:

What are the stock dimensions for the factory rims on my 07 GT convertible?

I know they are 17", but how wide are they? 8"?

What is the stock offset?

What is my lug pattern 5x4.5?

Do these have tire pressure sensors in them? I heard the 07's did.

If there are tire pressure sensors, how are they mounted in these cars?

If I buy used rims, are all of the Mustang GT rims from a certain year up the same offset and lug pattern?

I am thinking about going with 20" rims but not sure about what offsets to look out for and what bolt pattern to make sure that they have, and finally what they look like so feel free to post up your aftermarket rim pics.

good question, dont know.

Anyone know if their is a sensor will it do anything or matter if I put a different set of rims w/ drag radials on the back when i go to the track?

Oh yeah and if their is a sensor in the 07 it doesnt work because i went to the track recently w/ my 07 and dropped the rear tire pressure to 23 pounds and i got nothing from it like telling me low tire pressure in my car so either way.. thats my input.

The machined "split spoke" rims are 17x8, 5x4.5, 45mm offset. 2004 and older stangs have a 25mm offset if i'm not mistaken. Yep, you got the tire pressure monitors (TPMs). To be sure, run your diagnostics button. If it tells you something about tire pressure normal or low, then you have them for sure.

The TPMs are mounted on the wheel by a metal band that wraps around the inside of the wheel and is permanently pop tacked. The sensors themselves are little blue things about 1" by 3".

I bought new rims and found this out the hard way. To transfer my sensors to the new rims, I had to order a sensor mounting kit which consists of 4 metal bands to the tune of $240 from the ford dealer. The sensors will be put on the band and the band will be installed to the new wheel. (What a racket!)

This particular TPM setup is proprietary so I don't think there is another way to do it. If the TPMs are not reinstalled, there will be a "low tire pressure" warning every time you start the car. Just hit the 'reset' button. However, there will be a little orange picture of a flat tire showing up on your speedo. I read somewhere that it is not legal to disable the sensors.

If you are getting 19" rims or bigger, it is best to check whether ford offers installation kits that will accommodate larger rims. Otherwise find some other way to mount the sensors to the wheel. My Ford dealership sported some modded '07 models with 20" rims. The mods were contracted out and I don't know how they addressed the TPM issue.

Many large tire companies (Discount Tire, for one) can handle mounting/changing rims with TPMS and can also supply the bands much cheaper than what Ford charges. It's wise to call ahead to be sure that they have the correct size band, though.

Well that's great information. Considering you will need to have some sort of handheld tool to accomodate the new tire sizes in the computer, and the cost of the bands, that's another $650 or so on top of the new rims and tires if the handheld costs $400.

odd i dont think my 07 has them. I remember going through the setup run on my car not to long ago and i didnt see anything about tire pressure. not to mention running the stock tire to about 23 pounds at the track with no warning.

Hopefully it is due to you not having them period and not from having defective ones...

I have wheels from an '07 GT/CS, I would assume they have the pressure sensors in them. Is there anyway to add the receiver in the car to monitor the pressure?

I don't have my manuals handy, but I think there is something in there about the sensors not necessarily recording low tire pressure right away and not recording that everything is okay right away if you correct a low pressure situation.

I remember reading somewhere (don't have a clue where) that it is illegal to disconnect a tire pressure monitoring system from tires that have them installed, but if you replace the wheels and the new wheels do not accommodate a tire pressure monitoring system, then that is okay. Check on this if you are concerned. Don't take my word for it.

It runs thru quite a few things like brakes, door ajar, trunk open, etc. Its really kinda cool.

ill have to run through my check to see if i see anything about tire pressure. But i was at the track from like 5pm to like 10pm w/ 23 pounds of pressure and no warning light on my 07.

I just went out to my car ran through the SYSTEM CHECK. "trunk closed"etc..

Nothing about tire pressure.

The brochure I have has the TPMS in the "What's New - Functional Changes".

I think I've read that FMVSS #138 requires TPMS for all cars and light duty trucks starting in MY2007.

I would rather not have them either. A lot of fix and mix. The ford sensors are most likely the ones that transmit a signal to the computer (see link above). The sensors have batteries. If a battery dies, you get an error message "Tire Pressure Monitor Fault." Time for new battery or new sensor. Mo munny mo munny.

I'll bet a few dumbells never bothered to look at their tires or check them before driving off, and got into a situation. That's probably why we now have the TPM requirement.
