Okay here's the deal. I am 37 years old and didn't buy this car because I wanted to race anyone. It seems like every Z28, Trans Am............and yes Taurus (I actually had an old man in a Taurus ask me if I wanted to go yesterday............it wasn't much of a run though, my 15 year old was cracking up) pull up next to me and want to go. Mainly it seems like it is Z28's and Trans Am's that will go out of their way to come after me.

What kind of quick, easy and inexpensive mods can be made to this car to just make it, shall we say, not an easy mark! I have had one person I know who owns a Trans Am tell me to put different gears in the rear end, a K&N injection performance kit, a cat-back flowmater system, and some of the pulleys and it will run a lot better, is this true? The car is an automatic so I am down a little to begin with. Does a performance chip make a difference, if there is one, and what kind of mods would you have to make to run a chip in it. Sorry if I sound like a novice, I am much more of a bike guy and when I have my FZ1 under me I can't find a single Trans Am, Z28, Corvette, or Cobra for that matter that feels like playing. 140hp on a 450lb package that runs 10.7 seconds stock is hard to deal with...................LOL

If I had unlimited funds I would love to put a 4 valve cobra engine in the car and leave all the GT markings on it. Then see how they feel afterward.

To keep the car reliable here is a list
1. 4.10 rear end
2. Performance chip (to calibrate speedometer for new gears and improved shifts)
3. Catted X pipe (magnaflow's is great)
4. K&N filter
5. Intake Plenum/Throttle Body combo (Dragon or C&L)

let us know any further questions

I agree with your list but you arent going to out run a modestly bolted on LS1 until you get longtubes and maybe some spray to go with it , first hand experience , i dont have gears yet but i have the rest of your list including long tubes and a guy with a ls1 with 410s put a car length or more on me , but he didnt pull me till we hit 3rd , if i had some spray i would have busted him but im saving for a blower .

Don't feel bad, I get called out by some of the most unlikely opponents ... some are cocky and some just wanna see what I've got. Mine's an auto and I've kept it looking plain Jane stock, although you can see the intercooler up front.

I'd say definitely get a good mid-pipe (X or H), cat-back, and gears. A high stall converter could close the gap against manual cars. They make a BIG difference in launch and acceleration from a roll.

As far as HP, a supercharger can you get you the best bang for the buck in terms of price, installation, performance, and maintenance. A 4v engine swap is costly, complicated, and you'd still need a power adder or expensive internal engine mods to rival/exceed the HP and torque of a good bolt-on blown 2v setup.

Just getting a new car, I go out every night trying to find a race. Most nights I come back empty. It kinda sucks but oh well I fun cruising and racing myself and getting better at driving hehe. I wish I got challenged so I could put some people in their place. The other night I had a volvo wagon messing with me, I just kinda laughed and blew his doors off. Some people will just never learn.

That's a coincidence, the only cars that hunt me down are LS1 cars.

Mustangs just wave unless it's a V6, then they pretty much just ignore me.

I've yet to have a Fox body try to taunt me.

I'm waiting to get some more mods and go to the track.. I need gears!!!

all you need to is a nice direct port nitrous kit, easy, realiable and very effective. throw drag radials on the back and you have a nice little quick street machine with the auto. But if you are really itching to race people just go to the local track

Being an auto, I'd go with a street/strip valve body from Performance Automatic and a high stall converter from Precision Industries(2800-3000 RPM stall). That with 4.10 gears, LT's, h-pipe, C&L plenum and MAF, should get you moving pretty quick. You'll still need some spray to be really competitve with the LS1's, though.

You're first mod should be the valve body and stall converter. At least then you'll be able to hang with(more than likely beat) 5 spd GT's.

I appreciate the input, I started looking into some superchargers after I posted this letter. What am I looking at on the cost for that $3000 or so? Which ones are the best and most reliable, I am thinking in the long run that a supercharger is the most efficient bang for the buck route to take.

that's wierd I've only had one z28 mess wtih me it was a LT1 but he had 3' cowl hood and sounded like he was running strait pipes definetly had a mullet and 3 million jeg's MSD edlebrock stickers on his rear window. I always get messed with in by stangs for some reason  Good majority are v6's who think I'm a 6 a well due the badges. Had this one guy mess with me for weeks till I finally dropped the hammer on him and pulled past him tires smoking.

It's too bad we can't put LS1 engines into our cars. SLP offers a head and cam package for the '97-'03 LS1 engines that raises the power to 485 hp. It's all streetable, too. All that for a low price of $2595--less than what we'd pay for a blower. You better hope that your competition doesn't have that installed!
