Stock 8" open diff to a limited slip?

I'm not totally differential ignorant, but I'm not sure what it would take to turn my stock open diff into a limited slip unit. I'm assuming I would need new everything anyway. Also factoring in the cost of this, would it be better just to go to a 9" rearend? I'm not planning on 500hp anytime soon and would just like it be bullet proof for the street. Thanks in advance for any info.
 
You can probably get away with the stock 8" Housing if you change the carrier:

I imagine a 9" would cost quite a bit more than a beefed up 8".

Well the "500 HP" was really more an exageration. I'd probably never see 400 for what I have planned for the car. Probably never see slicks either. Is it possible to build a really tough 8" for under $750? I have found some complete 3rd members for around $650.

i really dont know what it cost or retails for.I worked at a Ford dealer and used to wholesale pricing.I think its was like $450 my cost for the TSD,side cover,3.80 gears and then $300 for axles.wow,now that i look at it was almost a $1000 i got for about $750 :spot:
