OK,,Im putting on a set of Thumper Heads.I hear other people with Thumpers say it revs alot higher now,,all the way up to 6000 rpm.I thought the stock cam only made power to 49--5000 rpm. Will my motor make more power up top now? even with the stock cam still in?

When building a motor hhe heads/intake/cam should be matched. With the stock cam the motor should make more power up top, but the stock cam is really hurting the performance of the engine.

Here's an idea; PM Thumper :p I'm sure he's done a bit of expirimenting, and knows what has worked well for those who have purchased his heads. My guess is the stock cam will work great with those heads. Is there something to be gained by going with another cam? Maybe, but probably not enough to justify swapping.

yo

wouldnt advancing the stock cam move the power band up so you could use the full 6k rpms of the heads and the gears? sounds like it would work....but i dont know that much about cams
If im not mistaken , all advancing the timing will do is cause the motor to fire sooner... wich at WOT , you'd want to retard the timing a bit ... less time to burn the fuel , if he has upgraded injectors and what not... Needs it to burn ... so .... not sure that would work...

You have to degree your stock cam to know what yhou have and then to figure out how to install it. My stock cam is advanced 4 degrees and makes power peak at 5,200 and it deosn't drop much till 5,600rpm.
