I believe they were part of the 74 Mach package.

Other than that I believe they could be optioned on any of the IIs with an 8".

They were in 74's-77's but none in 78? You can go to the tech center of the mustangII network site and get the axle ratio and open/lock carrier info IF you have the tag numbers. 3.00:1 seems to be the most common.

Not necessarily. I believe that the only option package the specified the use of a Traction-Lok was the Rallye Sport Package. Lots of KCs left the factory spec'd with the Rallye Sport package, i'm sure. I could be wrong.

One would think that. My brothers tri stripe cobra (78) only came with single wheel squeel ! I am not saying that the mustang network decoder is gospel , but it is a good place to start. Especially if you have the tag. According to the decoder I believe my 74 , 4 banger coupe should have had a 6 3/4" rear BUT NO, it had an 8" rear !!??!! Alot of strange things happened back then , but remember you used to be able to ORDER a car ,the way you wanted it. Which could explain why some 78's may have a posi unit installed.

Yep, use to be a car or truck could be ordered pretty much the way the buyer wanted it. A 302 2bbl with C6 and 9" in an LTD? Sure, it would be pretty much a waste but I don't see why it couldn't be had from the factory. Just like the I4 in a CobraII.

I remember Mom and Dad ordering cars way back then. They sat down with the literature from the dealer and go over the options and make up what they wanted to order. Now go to order a car and everything is a frigging package. Want power door locks? Fine, you get power windows too, no choice.

This is sort of puzling as with the integration of computers to the manufacturing process the last person on the assembly line can know what is ordered on a particular vehicle before the person who ordered it leaves the dealership. At least in theory.

I guess this is a rant. In my short lifetime I've watched the world switch from analog to digital and things have become so much easier. Along with this easy it seems what we get is, overall, less.

My 75 has a single wheel with 3.00 gear which is pretty much the standard. I am trying to find an aftermarket spool or posi unit to put in my 8in. Till then, Its one wheel peel charlie.
