I finally got around to buying some bolt on parts for my 2002 S281 N/A. This weekend i am installing a magnaflow catted x pipe, accufab 75mm TB/plenum. I was thinking about getting an XCAL 2 hand tuner since they can read the stock saleen tune. How good is the saleen tune? I mean, is it worth it to get a tuner for $380 so i can max out the performace or is the saleen tune decent enough to where i wont notice anything. I know they have a slight advance in timing and a 91 octane tune. How much farther can i go with the timing safely, and then with a 93 octane tune, what kind of HP gains will i get, if any, from the handheld? Plus, i'm not too familiar what other parameters you can mess with and if it will help out with maxing out the HP from the tune. Any help would be great.

Yes the stock Saleen tune is very mild. I would get the SCT and have the car tuned to get the most out of it. You will get most of your hp from advancing the timing. I had the Diablo tuner on my N/A 03 and noticed a seat of the pants difference. I also had the accufab 75mm throttle body and plenum. You can do so many things with the SCT.

Like Justin said.

The Saleen "powerflash" is only a mild timing and fuel advance. The SCT is worth the money. For the record the 99-00 powerflash is a little more aggressive than the 01-04. 2 or 3 octane has some pop. Maximize what your mods will give you and go SCT.
