Stock: SP Gap .40 or .54??

As good as the Official Mustang Handbook is, there have been a few times where i thought i have found mistakes in what they publish. This was one instance. According to the book the gap is 0.044", however as stated, the Vaccuum and Emmissions control decal on my own car lists it as 0.054"

So the genuine, Ford spark plug catalog is correct?

my motorcrafts are around .035 I think better re-gap them.. seems pretty concrete about the .052-.056. or should I just get some autolites?

The E6SE head requires a unique plug (AWSF_2C). That plug's reach is .708" as opposed to all other years whose plug's reach is .460".

What would it do if you used other plugs and not the right one for [86] ?

I put plugs in it last year -called for 86-93 5.0 [Auto zone]...

It backfires or pops when it's cold... but nothing odd.

Any idea if it would hurt anything ... idle.. hp etc ...../ ?

One would imagine power would be down slightly under load (WOT).
