Well, the mufflers took a dump on my mach1 so I had them cut out the mufflers and just put in a pieces of pipe, needless to say a 351 cj with straights is LOUD it sounds good, but it sets off every car alarm, and you can hear it for 1-2 miles off of 522, and anywere in monroe. so, whats the law regading too loud of exaughst? nobody pulled me over yet, and I've gone by state patrol with it, but I was only home for a few days to drive it.

It's going to depend on the cop, from my experience. They might employ the noise limitation on some ricer dork blasting a stereo that the cop hates, but the same cop might think your car is cool, and let you skate even though you're louder. It's not a game I'd like to play, personally; you're probably better off in the 'burbs than here downtown, though.

Back in high school I ran a 70' coupe with a warmed over 302 with side exiting exhaust and no mufflers for about 1 summer(3 months), and got pulled over about 43 times for noise. Never got a ticket though. I say do it till they catch ya. Lot's of fun...

The RCW specifically says that exhaust modified to have anything but the stock noise level is illegal, but as stated above, it's really up to the cop and your attitude whether or not it gets enforced.

RCW 46.37.390 said:
Mufflers, prevention of noise — Smoke and air contaminants — Standards — Definitions.

(1) Every motor vehicle shall at all times be equipped with a muffler in good working order and in constant operation to prevent excessive or unusual noise, and no person shall use a muffler cut-out, bypass, or similar device upon a motor vehicle on a highway.

(2)(a) No motor vehicle first sold and registered as a new motor vehicle on or after January 1, 1971, shall discharge into the atmosphere at elevations of less than three thousand feet any air contaminant for a period of more than ten seconds ..... (a bunch of B.S.)

(3) No person shall modify the exhaust system of a motor vehicle in a manner which will amplify or increase the noise emitted by the engine of such vehicle above that emitted by the muffler originally installed on the vehicle, and it shall be unlawful for any person to operate a motor vehicle not equipped as required by this subsection, or which has been amplified as prohibited by this subsection so that the vehicle's exhaust noise exceeds ninety-five decibels as measured by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) test procedure J1169 (May, 1998). It is not a violation of this subsection unless proven by proper authorities that the exhaust system modification results in noise amplification in excess of ninety-five decibels under the prescribed SAE test standard. A court may dismiss an infraction notice for a violation of this subsection if there is reasonable grounds to believe that the vehicle was not operated in violation of this subsection.

This subsection (3) does not apply to vehicles twenty-five or more years old or to passenger vehicles being operated off the highways in an organized racing or competitive event conducted by a recognized sanctioning body.

You should be ok unless the cops hear ya romping on. My Cobra was pretty loud but my 87GT I had was louder never got pulled over for noise in california and there worse than here. A good discription of how loud it was would be when I was coming back from the monster truck races MY X Girl friends 9 year old Daughter said my car sounded mad

Cops in Monroe are awesome. Cops in Snohomish though... bad news I recommend gliding through there. Woodinville cops I have never had any problems with and never get pulled over even while speeding through their district.

Hope this helps...

Thank you drive through please
