when i start up the stang, (mostly in cold weather) i will often get a strange howling/whining sound. it is quite loud and seems to be coming from the engine. it will last about 10-15 seconds, but will stop when i rev the engine. it may come back again tho. my warranty is up and im worried it is related to somthing bigger. any thoughts?

check your power steering fluid , common noise with low fluid is howling noise , next time you start the engine , have someone else start it and open the hood that way you may be able to hear exactly where the noise is coming from .

that might be the thing. i know im low on power steering fluid. can i just buy some from any parts store, like coolant, or do i need a speacial ford brand :nonono:

so...many...possibilities....i could see it being my alternator also, i have my audio system running off it :notnice: somtimes i just wanna take out a huge loan and buy a nice german car. my dad's M3 would do the trick

use dextron III tranny fluid , its what it calls for in a ford , fill that thing up and get back to us for more help , PS dont get a german car if you dont want bigger headaches than you have now
