when i start up the stang, (mostly in cold weather) i will often get a strange howling/whining sound. it is quite loud and seems to be coming from the engine. it will last about 10-15 seconds, but will stop when i rev the engine. it may come back again tho. my warranty is up and im worried it is related to somthing bigger. any thoughts?

check your power steering fluid , common noise with low fluid is howling noise , next time you start the engine , have someone else start it and open the hood that way you may be able to hear exactly where the noise is coming from .

Also check your alternator by putting a large screw driver on the alternator and the handle to your ear. Mine went bad on my Old 2002 GT and it did exactly what you expained.

sometimes your belt might be going, i had a whining/howling noise, and it dissapeared when i put some belt dressing on...just a temporary fix until my belt gets changed...today.

use dextron III tranny fluid , its what it calls for in a ford , fill that thing up and get back to us for more help , PS dont get a german car if you dont want bigger headaches than you have now
