OK first question..Who here is from California, particularly southern cali? Second question..Who here from California has gotten a street racing ticket? If you have what were the consequences? I will spare you the details but I got caught racing my friend at like 50 MPH and got a ticket which says Street Racing 23109 CVC. Nothing else. Any advice? I know im a jackass but we all make mistakes.

----------------------------UPDATE--------------------------------
Well i went to court yesterday and they dropped it down to a speeding ticket and gave me a fine. Sweet. Wont be doing that anymore.

Did you get your car towed? If not, you are most likely going to get your license taken away and a HUGE fine. In Ohio you get your car impounded + all of the above, and I can imagine California would not be any less strick.

Yikes i would google that citation number and see what comes up just to be sure. I have heard that you will get your car towed and crushed if you get caught street racing, that might just be a san diego thing though. From what i have also heard its a big ass fine like over 1,000 bucks. yikes, man keep us updated.

I think your first offense is like 500 or 750 bucks, and an optional 6 month suspension. Depends on the judge I guess. I would take a deffensive driving course before court if I could. You can postpone your court date up to a month or two I think. At least the judge would see you are making an effort to be a "more cautious driver."

Second offence in three years is a bigger fine and a auto 6 month suspension, and third is a huge fine and a one year suspension.

This may not be current. This was as of 04. Don't know what they changed. I'd be willing to bet they will make you take the DD course to keep your DL.

I would do like WhiteDevil said and google up that cit. number.

Good luck. Just think, in a year this will be nothing more than a memory. Still sucks right now though.....

Huntington beach here, thats a HUGE no no around here, if your car didnt get impounded, consider yourself lucky. The first offense is between 500 - 1k its a 2 or 3 point ticket, and dont be surprised if you lose your license for about 6 months.
Keep us all posted.

The sherriff's impounded my car but they were nice enough to just put a one day hold on it instead of a 30 day which is normally mandatory if you're caught. I got it out next day. I think they were cool because i work in a health care career locally where i associate with law enforcement and fire department in emergency situations on a daily basis. They told me the only reason they didn't was so i can get back and forth to work. Not cool enough to toss the ticket though, but they were considering it. My court date is in late July. Please wish me luck.. P.S. I found this link on street racing...I can only hope this is all that will happen, but then again, i wasnt pulled over by the CHP >>>> http://www.chp.ca.gov/html/streetlegal.html

I got busted for racing. $250 bargain to make it an expired tag violation and a weekend in jail finished that off. Never impounded the car, never lost my license.

West LA/Culver City here. rude_life, good CHP link. Sorry to hear you had troubles, and I hope the cop doesn't show at your court date.

It is criminal violation with a one year mandatory DL suspension to street race in FL. Anyone watching the race can also be charged with the criminal violation and lose their license for at least one year. But yet your first time DUI offense is a 6 month DL suspension...friggin

That sucks dude...

I got caught street racing once, the cop gave me a speeding ticket and wrote street racing on the ticket. I just paid the speeding ticket and that was that.. I was lucky, and yet i still street race.. Its hard to resist, but where i do it now is ina great spot where not many people/cops travel.

Good luck man, i hope you dont lose your license cause that hurts.

so cal here, borderline/oc, the cops around my town are pretty cool, in fact they've let me off for racing before (yes i lucked out) since then i wouldnt dare, i know i could of lost my car that night.... so if anything i'll get on it when nobody's really around, i noticed the cops in orange county are a bit more dickish, after i come back from the races (at the track) if i cruise around with the numbers on the windows for sure i'll get a cop eyeing me

Street racing's just not worth it, the slower car can win too easily, keep it at the track where there's no excuses. Good luck with your ticket.
