If this was directed at my post by safe I meant not having to run WOT on the street. Not whether your tune on the dyno would be better or "safer" enginewise than a street tune. Some shops really don't have a 'safe' place to street tune so they install a dyno. I'd have to think a good tuner could compensate for any variances between the street or dyno tune anyway. Turbo cars notwithstanding.
You can't recreate wind resistance on the dyno floor, or the correct coolant temps, IAT temps etc, YOu can have the biggest floor fan, but it isnt the same.

With a dyno you get power numbers and not just A/F. Sometimes you make more power with an unexpected A/F ratio, not to mention that fact that torque curves are exactly what you should be basing your shift points on! Dyno tunes are worth it to me!

Some people are just hard headed and are caught up in dynos because for the most part they've never heard of street tuning being offered. Most people on here know very little about what is involved in a tune to begin with, so they tend to spout second hand knowledge as fact.
