I have a friend that is contemplating on building a Stroker (347) but he wants it to pass emeissions and not sound like a nasty car. He was thinking of putting a Stock cam. So it wont have that lumpity lump idle or sound like it is nasty.

What are some pros (if any) or Cons cause i know there are gonna be alot of them. Or maybe it will work nicely for him. He is not trying to twist this thing to 6500 rpm or anything like that. It should be good down low with more torque of the stroker.

any input please

thanks

Tell your friend to keep your cats if possible, and short headers (no longtubes).

Also, keep the smog pump.

I think the main issue in passing emissions is your cam design.

He should think about going with a custom cam from one of the following:

Ed Curtis @ www.flowtechinduction.com

Jay Allen @ www.camshaftinnovations.com

Buddy Rawls @ www.wighat.com?

If he emails/calls them, and tells him his goals, they can let him pass the sniffer test:)

Just some ideas for now, hopefully someone can help you out more:nice:

if all he is upgrading is more cubes to the 347, he shouldn't have any problem at all passing emissions. Most important things are to keep all your smog equipment hooked up, use the stock cam, and keep the cats. Bigger heads, more compression, and more cubes will not make enough difference to make you fail smog if you have those components.

The stroker will pass.

Jay Allen can get you squared away...
I haven't assembled my 408w, but Jay did the cam, so I know I will pass.

The best thing you can do is call a custom cam grinder...
You get the perfect cam for your motor.
You get one on one customer service and GOOD tech advice.
You get recommendations on what parts you should be running now, and what upgrades you may want to make in the future.
You will pay a little more for the cam, but all the other benefits will make up for it.

If you aren't already set for the stroker kit/shortblock, then look into
FordStrokers.com
Jim has helped me on a couple of occasions. He is a pleasure to work with!

I have links to both of these shops/guys in my sig.
