Hello to all,

It has been a while since I have been on the board, I will keep this as short as possible. There are a million threads about stroker kits that usually seem to turn into short/long block disucssions.

I am a dad with 2 boys ages 10 and 6 that want to help dad build his stang. I would like to buy a stroker kit and assemble it with them. It will be a daily driver that will be supercharged/turboed at a later date.

My main question is where is the best place to buy such a thing. Is it as easy as buying a block from DSS and stroker kit then blueprinting and assembling it or am I creating an opportunity for failure.
I have assembled motors in my youth which included checking clearences and end play and rotational torques but usually from the machine shop they were spot on.

Thanks in advance for any information,

John

I guess my question was self answered or maybe it was not. Anyways do you think I should keep the stock block and have it machined somewhere in Dallas TX or buy one already done from DSS or CHP.

Any help would be appreciated

fordstrokers.com i believe is the URL is a good place I hear. Your kids will really enjoy it, i'm very thankful my pap did, and still builds motors with me. It's a great bonding experience.

Well I am looking for a street car in the 400hp range. As for cost I am looking for less than $6000.00 for running motor if that is possible. I am totally stock so will have to buy all, motor, heads, intake, the list begins.
I know there will be unknown needs like a tunner (pms, tweeker) and others that I am still finding.

Pull up e-bay....search "TMD Stroker" and you'll get a ton of results, they have a wide range of kits and I'm sure you can even call them and give them specifics and they'll help you out. They even sell a clearance tool so you can notch your own block! They have everything from a $650 budget kit up to a completely forged kit for $1340...which is total overkill for a 400hp engine. They have a ton of other engine parts too, I got my SFI balancer for less than $100 bucks from them a couple years ago

Alright, I looked at e-bay and did some searching on TMD sounds like it is a love hate. If you are carefull at purchase it looks like they may be a good source.
Is anyone in the Dallas TX area and know of a good machine shop. Or is a level 10 or 20 the way to go. I am not going crazy horse power or anything so a stock block would probably do.

Thanks

I know Calverts in Denton used to do a lot of stuff for the local folk around here

I don't know if they are still around and if so

What their rep is these days :)

Just last spring I turned my stock 302 into a 331 stroker. I skimped on a few thing but not too many. I mean I didn't go crazy on anything and I spent about $9000.00 and still haven't had a chip burned for it.

Original Block
stroker kit (all forged except crank)
AFR 185's
Holley Systemas intake
MSD Billet Dizzy
Stock oil pan
75 mm TB
36 lb injectors and MAF to match
255 fuel pump
Shorty headers
UD pulleys
Comp cam
1.6 roller rockers

It really adds up. I am sure I missed a bunch.

Just to give you a price comparison. Jim Woods at Fordstrokers is building my 331 stroker as we speak. This should help you decide where you sit money wise with buying a shortblock or building one up.
