My 1975 Ghia emits a very strong gas odor after driving. It dissipates in about and hour and no odor after that. Checked for leaks around carb, fuel lines etc. and found nothing. Suspect the carbon canister since it has never been replaced (original owner). Anyone know where I can get a replacement? Have not located it yet. I understand it has a hose that leads to the gas tank. Is the canister mounted on the left frame rail?

It is easier(?) to pull off the fender instead. The door is pretty heavy and you'll need to realign it after you put it back on.

Not sure if there is a replacement for the canister, though. Check with NAPA, they seem to carry a few items for the II.

Never found a replacement canister but guess I do not need it. The problem seems to have disappeared. Have no idea why but suspect it had something to do with the carb. It was not idling quite right so I opened the idle jet a little to fix that. Since then no gas smell.
