I've heard of many people with stock motors being blown or ruined because of Kenne Bell SC's. They do make a lot of power, but I'm also looking for a "safer" boost since it's also my daily driver. I heard from Chicane Sport Tuning that while Saleen SC's don't make as much power, they're a reliable source of it.

the saleen will do damage just as fast as a KB on an engine that isn't setup properly or poorly tuned. They are similar superchargers but the KB is the better unit overall and i think it might be cheaper. BUT if your trying to complete your Saleen look i understand why you would want the Saleen blower. I'd be happy with either but would buy the KB but its your money :p

That's the most retarded comment I've ever heard. Who cares if every one on this board doesn't have a Kenne Bell blower. If you really want to split hairs about "Smart Saleen People"....I would image that the smart ones don't sink top dollar into a factory supercharged Saleen, just to swap it out with a Kenne Bell unit afterwords! The smart ones would buy the exact same car in N/A trim and buy the other blower right off the bat, instead of going through the trouble and expense of removing and selling the Saleen unit...and then the trouble and expense of buying and installing the Kenne Bell unit right after that.

...and for the record, the Saleen Series IV will make every bit the power that the Kenne Bell unit will at reasonable street levels and more than enough to push past the limits of the stock short block. It's only when you really start spinning them (into the 12-14psi and 450-500hp levels) that the Saleens lower manifold becomes a restriction.....but by that point, both engines require internal upgrades and a steady diet of race fuel to keep them together anyway, so what's the point of bitching about blower limitations?
 
Anyone should be happy to have any supercharger no matter what the brand. We all have different financial situations and goals for our cars. These cars can definitely be money pits. Be happy that you can afford to spend any money on your pony no matter what it be you choose to spend it on. Cheap mods included for us poor guys...

This is all true except your power numbers are off. The saleen blowers won't break 400hp without a considerable amount of work. Porting, IC work, etc. The restrictions in the intake are only part of the problem. Gaps around the intercooler need to be sealed as well.

This is true, perhaps I was being a little optimistic with regards to the complete kit. Without some work to the manifold and addressing the sealing issues associated with the intercooler brick (not to mention the stock Series IV unit comes with a stock size 65mm T/B) seeing comparable numbers might be a challenge. The point I was really trying to elabourate on was with regards to the blower itself. The Series IV uses a Screw Type unit (1600AX), just the same as a Kenne Bell does. It's every bit as effiecient and capable it just needs a little help with the accompanying components.

The Saleen manifold isn't exactly that complicated a piece and is realativley easy to port (which by the looks of it, you already know). To even have it extrude honed would be of great benefit. The sealing issues with regards to the intercooler brick can be cured easily as well....and a Throttle body change to increase incoming air flow levels is a snap. The Saleen kit does benefit from a better heat exchanger than the one offered with the Kenne Bell, which is a plus once the other issues have been ironed out.

Even if one wasn't able to accomplish these modifications themselves and had to pay someone to do it, it would still be far less expensive than having to take what would likely be a 50% hit in the cost of selling the used Saleen charger, then having to make up the difference to spring for the Kenne Bell. Not to mention Saleen owners still get to keep the originality of having a factory blower unit on their car. :shrug:

Sealing the gaps around the IC was pretty easy. Porting it was not. It is difficult to get to the intake side of the runners. I did some acid porting, but didn't get aggressive with it becasue there are some thin spots. I ended up cutting out most of the wall in the inside of the intake which shortened each runner about two inches then I was able to get a grinder in there to open them up more. If I had to do it over I would have it extrude honed.:nonono:

Yeah it is the m90, I haven't had it on the dyno since I put the supercharger on it. I do my own tuning, and have a wideband, so it wasn't really a priority. I plan on getting it dynoed after I finish my forged motor build this summer. The guy I bought the sc from was putting down 330 through the stock exhaust on the stock pulley. If I had to guess I'd say I'm around 360-370. With my new engine, I plan on doing stage 2 blower cams at the same time, so I think I can push it over 400.
