I did a search on this topic but didn't find quite what I was looking for.

I'm looking into purchasing a Strut Tower Brace for my '89, and I see that Maximum Motorsports claims that their brace is the only design that won't end up cracking the firewall because it mounts at the pinchwelds instead of at the thin sheetmetal near the cowl.

I understand the logic of their claim, but I was just curious as to everyone's opinions. BBK, Ford Motorsports, MAC, etc. all make essentially similar looking and similar designed Strut Tower Braces, has anyone used them for a while and found problems similar to the claim that MM makes? Also, any other personal experience as far as installation issues or interference issues wouldn't hurt either.

Thanks.

With the MM STB, you don't have to drill any holes into the firewall and it seems like you get some extra support by bolting into the pinch welds versus the firewall. I used to have a MAC STB, but have the MM STB now. IMO, the MM is a heck of a lot better design and more sturdy. You can't go wrong with MM.

I used the Steeda brace (through bolted to the firewall) in my convertible and never had any cracking. Although without the brace, I did manage to crack the windshield in my convertible.

:)

But you can not go wrong with anything that MM sells. They are a great company and make quality products.

The MM also allows you to run any of the larger intakes without clearance problems which seems to be more of an issue than cracking. The pinch weld is stronger and will provide more structural rigidity which is what you are after anyways.

I run a MM STB and there hasn't been any cracking, or problems for that matter.

I ahev the MM on my 91 vert LX and no cracking, solid sturdy piece... Although-I inherited the car with the strut tower brace, subframe connectors and underneath brace that all comes with the kit from MM. Im quite happy about that! hahahaha I would say go for it!
