Stuck screw in awkward location, please help with removal suggestions

Hello,

I have a stuck phillips head screw in the upper drivers side corner holding the instrument cluster housing (black plastick, 1987 Vert) down. I need to get this off to get at my tach. I can't push down because the windshield is there, and clearence is very, very, tight. A stubby #2 phillips does not fit. Anyone have any other ideas?

you can get ratcheting 90* screwdrivers from most hardware stores. they'll hold regular screwdriver bits and help a hell of a lot in tight spots.

they're 7-10 bucks at sears depending on how many bits you want with it. the sears item number is 00941716000 if you want to check it out at their website

i used a ratchet to get mine off. the screw I had, had a head that would take a phillips and a small socket. Use a small rachet and you should be able to get it out.

Went to the hardware store and picked one up...

I am taking my time on this, so far, I have not broken anything

I can use a stubby screwdriver, or a 1/4" ratchet with a socket that fits screwdriver bits.

I thought those were torx t-20 head screws holding the housing on by the windshield. I am almost sure they are on my 89. I just used a torx bit in a socket.

mine are torx t-20's in my 87 and 91

Unless someone took the cluster out before and put in phillips head screws it probably is a Torx head.
I just put my 89 back together last weenked and they were torx T-20.
